theme: spring

The theme for this week's nine sides of sunday was spring. I wanted to take the kids on a field trip to Dripping Springs to take pictures. I thought it would be a good play on words: spring [season] and spring [source of water]. Once we got there, I realized that it was a three mile hike on a rough and rocky trail. No strollers! That is a little too far to go with seven kids and no help. So, we drove to the picnic site at La Cueva just down the hill. After a picnic lunch, we tried the trail.

Let me start by saying that we hiked less than a mile and it took us an hour and a half. Mia ended up carrying Echo or holding his hand. I carried the stroller. Mica held on to Johnny and we climbed up and slipped down a hundred times. That was the longest walk of my life! We didn't even make it to the actual cave. It was a lot of fun and I'll go back with the older kids, but it definitely wasn't toddler friendly.

Kristy: I liked all the curly white things!

Mike: He had to work, so we took this one for him.

Mia: You said spring!

Mica: The new plants are growing around the old dead tree.

Mikal: Everything starts growing and getting green.

Bleu: This is a picture of my mom's calendar. Flowers are for spring.

Butterfly: The cactus is green because it is spring and the rock is really big.

Johnny: the bush is growing.

Echo's little flower.

About The Project

  • Each Sunday, our family will choose a theme to photograph. Each of the nine family members will choose their best photo to include on the site. This is an ongoing art project that we hope will teach our kids how to express their own vision of the world they live in.

  • You can participate by submitting your photo to the Nine Sides of Sunday flickr group.
